Unwanted Glasses Head To Developing Countries Thanks To Lions

The five Lions Clubs on the Island have collected over 5,000 pairs of glasses this year.

Hovertravel have, for the sixth year running transported over 200 boxes of spectacles to Portsmouth where they are collected and sent to a distribution centre, where all the glasses from the district in the area are cleaned.

Sorted and graded in France
They are sent to France where they are sorted and graded before being transported to developing countries including Eastern Europe.

Lions clubs all over the country do this every year collecting many thousands of glasses.

The transfer this year took place on Wednesday aboard the 11.45 hovercraft from Ryde. Lions club International express their gratitude to Hovertravel for their continued support.
