Subway in Newport has closed

The landlord, Subway Realty Ltd, has placed a notice on the Town Lane shopfront to tenant James Whitmore, denying him entry to the premises.

It states: "Any attempt by you or your agents to enter the demised premises will result in criminal/civil proceedings being taken against you."

It was signed on July 26.

The County Press has contacted Subway head office for further information.

Subway has not had a good year on the Island.

In a separate matter, in April, another franchisee of the two Subway outlets in Ryde, Srikrsn Ltd, of Edgware, Middlesex, pleaded guilty at the IW Magistrates' Court to 12 hygiene offences.

Offences included poor cleanliness and a lack of staff supervision and training.

Fines totalled £12,000, reduced to £8,000 for an early guilty plea, with £3,845 court costs.
