Realising that very little funding is received for research into brain tumours; following Marks surgery in April 2015, they embarked on a series of fund-raising events to benefit the Brain Tumour Charity and The Fire Fighters Charity, who supported Mark, as a serving fire fighter and his family through his recuperation, raising in excess of £10,000 for these two charities.

It became apparent to Mark and Kathryn through their own experience, that there was a distinct lack of support on the Isle of Wight for this devastating disease, and the priority for the charity now is to focus on supporting other Island families embarking on this difficult journey.

The Wight Brainy Bunch hold a monthly support group (first Thursday of the month),held in the Wessex cancer support centre in Newport from 18:00 -19:00 providing both vital information and emotional support, not only to the patient, but also to their carers and family members.

In addition to this, the charity can provide financial assistance to families struggling with the inevitable added expenses that are so often incurred; including travel costs to the Mainland for appointments and treatment, loss of earnings, specialist equipment to improve mobility, short breaks and memory making experiences for those with a terminal diagnosis, counselling services, physio and cognitive therapy to aid rehabilitation, as well as any other services deemed beneficial for the patient/family.

The Wight Brainy Bunch continue to support The Brain Tumour Charity, to fund much needed research, aid early diagnosis and improve the care and quality of life for all those living with a brain tumour, and also Smile4Wessex, charitable support for The Wessex Neurological Centre in Southampton. This is where Mark underwent his craniotomy, and where the vast majority of Isle of Wight patients will be treated following diagnosis of a brain tumour, so by supporting this facility the charity can be certain that Isle of Wight families continue to benefit from monies raised.

The Wessex Neurological Centre provide acute and specialist care to a population of approximately 3 million people from the Isle of Wight and across the South Coast, not only for brain tumours but conditions such as brain injury, stroke, brain haemorrhage, motor neurone disease and epilepsy,
