20 year old man died in Cowes hazardous chemical incident

Police share the official word on the chemical incident in Cowes. Ed


Police closed part of St Mary’s Road in Cowes last night (April 27) to allow Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to manage a hazardous chemical incident.

Police were contacted just after 7pm by Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Paramedics were treating a man in his 20s at a house in St Mary’s Road but he died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Inspector Robert Abel said:

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“We are still currently at the scene but we would like to reassure residents that there is no wider risk to the community.”

The road is still closed to traffic, but it is open to pedestrians.
