SingAbout Freshwater 5th Birthday

SingAbout Freshwater: Five years on and still going strong

Hannah Griffiths from Independent Arts tells us more about the SingAbout sessions which have been running for five years in Freshwater. Ed

SingAbout Freshwater celebrated its fifth Birthday on 21st March 2016.

The social singing activity, based at the Memorial Hall meets on a Monday morning from 10.15am-12.15pm. The group has gone from strength to strength with more than 65 participants benefitting from the free sessions currently funded by the Age Friendly Island Big Lottery Fund Grant.

Hugely therapeutic
The group sings popular songs based around a weekly theme, that might be seasonal, weather based or just a selection of old favourites.

It might include songs from musicals, traditional folk songs and rhymes, popular music and everything in between. Some weeks include fancy dress themes, and there are activities such as “Scottish Country Walking” to get participants up and moving.

Hannah Griffiths, Project Manager for SingAbout, said,

“The Freshwater group has been a trailblazer for the SingAbout Project, we are so pleased with how it has developed over the last five years.

“The group has become its own little community, everyone is included with family members and carers joining in with the sessions too. Everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

“It is a real testament to Jane – the group’s Musical Practitioner and her amazing Volunteers that everything runs smoothly and people feel so welcome. Here’s to the next five years.”

Singabout sessions are held at venues across the Island, for more details please contact Independent Arts: 822437 or email [email protected]
