Harcourt Sands - Site outline

Harcourt Sands gets approval. OnTheWight speaks to the developer

The redevelopment of the Harcourt Sands site near Ryde jumped a major hurdle last night (Tuesday) as its Outline planning permission was voted through.

Isle of Wight councillors did attach an additional condition before passing it.

The site, adjacent to Puckpool Park, is looking to be developed by ZeroC, who applied for Outline permission for 128 residential units, alongside a tourism proposal that would comprise either a 63 bed hotel or 15 holiday units, a car park to serve Puckpool Park, and various works to the landscape and access for the site.

Additional condition
The councillors felt that the affordable housing element on the site shouldn’t just be starter homes, but also affordable rental property for local people.

The change was proposed by Cllr Geoff Lumley (Lab) and seconded by the Planning Committee’s Chair, Cllr Julia Baker-Smith (Ind). OnTheWight has contacted IWC for the exact wording and will update when we receive it.

Reaction from the developer
Kim Slowe, MD of ZeroC, the site’s developer told OnTheWight this morning,

“We’re pleased that we’re in a position to bring the site forward.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the council officers and the community, to bring forward a Reserved Matters application (The project’s look and feel), that will create a scheme that the Island will value for years to come.

“We’re going to crack on with it quickly. We hope to submit our Reserved Matters application in the early Spring, with a view to starting work in the Summer.”

Harcourt Sands background

Harcourt Sands, near Ryde on the Isle of Wight, is adjacent to Puckpool Park.

Harcourt Sands is proposed to be remodelled as a luxury hotel and a number of other homes.

The company ZeroC has a planning application in place that in December received Outline planning permission by the Isle of Wight council.

The developer hope work can start in Summer 2016. Many years ago it used to be known as the Renowned Holiday Camp.
