Isle of Wight JSA claimant numbers released

Figures published by the Office for National Statistics show that 1,325 people in the Isle of Wight area were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) during October 2015.

The figures show a rise of 107 since September 2015, which saw 1,218 JSA claimants, and a large fall of 278 from October 2014 (1,603).

Of this month’s total figure, 860 applicants were male (up 47 on last month, down 216 on this time last year) and 465 female, (up 60 on last month, down 62 on this time last year).

That means 1.6% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 0.6% more than the rest of the South East (1%), and 0.1% less than the whole of the UK (1.6%).

The percentage rate of persons claiming JSA for the United Kingdom region in October 2015 was 7.07%, based on 664,130 claimants and population all aged 16 & over of 9,396,700 (Jan 2004-Dec 2004 figure).
