On Tuesday 4th February, a meeting was held at Carisbrooke High School on the Isle of Wight, which outlined the redundancies that would be issued in the April/May period. The redundancies would affect the staff at the three Island Innovation Trust run campuses.

As a result, students at the Island Innovation VI Form Campus would see the loss of: their personal tutors; their librarian; their attendance officer; their careers guidance officer; their exams officer; their office staff; their support staff; their IT support staff; their caretaking staff; and other key members of their educational community.

From this, the many positions that were once held, would be given to one member of staff. That member of staff would then have to take responsibility for the welfare and wellbeing of over 400 students, and that of the positions previously held.

This is a serious issue that cannot be allowed to happen. 

For the year 12s, they will have a very limited level of support through some of the most testing times of their educational life, for example: their UCAS application; any resit applications; and any emotional support that they may need while completing their A Levels.

For the year 13s and 14s, they will have no one to turn to on results day; no one to discuss university clearing with; and no one to rely on, should they need a shoulder to cry on.
