Island's Rew Valley Dairies stops milk production

A dairy company on the Isle of Wight is to cease milk production after 30 years.

Rew Valley Dairies cited supermarket "milk price wars" as the main reason for stopping production at its plant near Arreton.

The family-run company said the milk market had changed "radically" and was now "dominated by the supermarkets".

About 15 people are employed at the dairy and up to five are expected to lose their jobs.

The business, which also deals in eggs, biscuits and bacon, said it would continue to buy and transport milk from Isle of Wight farms.
