Police are appealing for witnesses and warning motorist to be vigilant following a spate of car thefts on the Isle of Wight over the weekend.

Smashed car windowBetween 2.00pm and 3.30pm on Sunday, March 3, three vehicles; two in Merstone at Merstone Old Station car park near the cycle track and one in Leeson Road, Ventnor, were broken into. All three had their windows smashed and in each incident handbags were stolen from the different cars.

In two of these incidents the handbags had been tucked out of view underneath seats.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have witnessed any of these incidents or seen anything suspicious.

PC Hayley Clayton said: “Please don’t leave valuables in your car which may attract opportunist thieves.

“Even if you are just leaving your vehicle for a short time, take everything with you and make sure everything is secure and locked.”
