Sergeant Mark Lyth of the West Wight Safer Neighbourhoods team said:

“We are looking forward to this year’s Old Gaffers Festival and hope it will be as safe, peaceful and well organised event as in previous years.

“The West Wight Safer Neighbourhood team are working closely with the organising committee, Yarmouth Harbour Commission, licensees and transport operators to maintain public safety.

“We will be particularly focusing this year on any young person who may be under the influence of alcohol.

“Any youngster found to be intoxicated will remain with us until they can be safely collected and removed from the location by a parent or carer. This was used at last year’s event to great success and helped us maintain a safe and family friendly festival.”

Twitter updates will be placed on @WestWightPolice or at #OldGaffers2013 with information about this weekend’s Old Gaffers Festival in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.
