Family Learning Team Reaches Landmark Figure

Well done to the Family Learning Team. This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

balloonIsle of Wight Council’s Family Learning Team has reached another milestone just two weeks after winning a national award.

Just registered their 5000th learner
Fresh from winning the ‘outstanding contribution to the local community’ accolade at the Times Educational Supplement’s Further Education Awards, the team have just registered their 5000th learner.

Wendy Dent from Freshwater recently attended a family learning workshop at All Saints Primary School where she was told of the good news.

Wendy will now receive some vouchers to spend on family books and games in recognition of being the 5000th person to benefit from family learning since the team began over a decade ago.

“Deserves a lot of credit”
Councillor Dawn Cousins said “The Family Learning Team started in 2000 and have been providing community learning ever since. They provide learning to almost 500 people per year which is an incredible amount.

“To reach 5000 learners, so soon after being recognised nationally by the Times Educational Supplement, deserves a lot of credit and I again offer my congratulations to the team and every single learner who has benefitted over the last decade.”

“Pleasant surprise”
Wendy Dent said “I had no idea I was the 5000th learner and it was a pleasant surprise when I was told. I totally support the aims of the Family Learning Team and believe that it is an excellent way to bring home and school together.

“All the children who participate appear so proud to have family members attend and take that opportunity to talk about other areas of their school life.

“Next year I am hoping that my parents will be able to attend some sessions and experience the differences in education today also allowing Trudi to hear their personal stories of school life. Congratulations to all the Family Learning Teams across the Island for such great and continued achievements.”

The vouchers will be presented to Wendy at All Saints Primary School’s Carol Concert on Thursday 8th December at 7pm.
