Members of a Borehamwood karate club took part in special outdoor training events recently to get back into practice after the holidays following the cancellation of a trip to America.

Normally senior members of Minakami Zanshin Karate Dojo, which runs a club at the Hawksmoor Centre, travel to Seattle every new year to train under chief instructor Shihan Akio Minakami.

However, due to the tragic events of September 11, the dojo decided not to go ahead with the trip, which would have involved skiing and training in Karate-do, Kobudo and Zen meditation.

This year members of the Borehamwood club gathered at Mount Moat Open Space, where they trained in pad work, simple Kumite drills and Kata.

Minakami Zanshin Karate Dojo will be holding a series of special beginners Karate course starting on Saturday, January 19, at the Hawksmoor Centre in Borehamwood from 12pm to 1pm.
