Wightlink £100,000 Ticket Giveaway Runs Into Problems

Wight Sky Gets The BluesThe weekend’s free travel offer from Wightlink resulted in chaos, as around 8,000 foot passengers swamped the service between Yarmouth and Lymington.

Concerns over safety mean that ferries currently cannot pass in the inlet at Lymington and speeds are reduced, severely affecting timetables.

One sailing from Yarmouth had to leave passengers behind as the ferry reached its capacity.

Wightlink blames teething problems, as they did following last week’s breakdown of one ferry, but the controversy over safety and the environmental impact of these new larger vessels continues.
