Cowes Week: IS Still On, Even Without A Sponsor

Cowes Week: IS Still On, Even Without SponsorJust in case there were any people who were in doubt about the future of Cowes Week, we’re pleased to confirm that the organisers tell VentnorBlog that, come what may, the historic event will still be taking place.

It’s well known that after 14 years of sponsorship, Skandia ended its connection with the event last year and, as yet, another sponsor hasn’t been announced.

Some people on the Island have been wondering if another sponsor isn’t found, whether Cowes Week will still continue.

After seeing an article in the Southern Daily Echo, we spoke to Michelle Warner, sales and marketing director for the event, who told us that they “hoped that they would be working with a new partner. Even if not, there is no danger that the event will not take place.”

Michelle admitted that there was some frustration with the rumours of the event not taking place, as there had, she said, “never been any question” of it not happening.

Running since 1826
Stuart Quarrie, CEO of Cowes Week told the Daily Echo, “The event has been running since 1826 and has only had a title sponsor for the past 20 years or so – sponsorship is not vital for Cowes Week to go ahead.

“As far as competitors and spectators are concerned, they should not notice any difference to previous years.”

It sounds like sponsorship of the event is still possible, as Stuart told the Echo, “We are having very good discussions with a number of companies and still very hopeful one will come to fruition.”

It’s comforting for the Island, in particular Cowes, to hear again that event is secure.
