UKSA: Young Island Mums Interview

UKSA: Young Island Mums InterviewHaving carried out a two and a half week course at the UKSA sponsored by Liz Earle, we caught up with six young Mums from the Island, Candy; Emma; Sarah; Emma; Krisy and Kat to find out how their experience had been.

During the course they got to try out Kayaking; Solo keel boating; surfing and even attaining their RYA Powerboat Level 2 award – in fact any of the water sports that they asked to be involved with.

It was clear that the girls really got a lot out of the training, as explained by Emma, “It’s shown us that even though we’ve got kids, we can do something like this, which is really good because before we were just stuck inside, doing the normal things. So it’s been really fun.”

The next stage
There are hopes, if the right sponsorship can be found, that the girls will be able to build on the skills that they’ve learnt, taking them to the level of instructors.

If they were able to achieve this, the girls will be able to earn some money, helping other to get tutored on water-based skills at the UKSA.

It’s great to see two organisations – UKSA and Liz Earle – working together to help people feel differently about their lives.

For me, the was summed up by Krisy when she said, “It’s made me feel that if you want to do something, you can do it, no matter what – if you really want to do it.” [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/UKSA-Liz-Earl-Young-Mums-Interview.mp3]
