Spyglass – 20 Year Birthday Knees Up Today

Spyglass - 20 Year Birthday Knees Up TodayThe many friends of Mr and Mrs Gibbs and their band of jolly chums know this already, as will those of you who saw the three page advertorial in the CP last week (that’s if you didn’t already turn up on Easter Saturday as was said in the piece), but just incase you didn’t know – there’s a bash on at the SpyGlass today to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary.

There’s music running from 12 this afternoon ’til midnight – and all for free. Can’t be bad – and highly likely to be a great laugh, if the little of what we saw of beaujolais day is anything to go by!

Hats off to Neil & Steph for the vision of seeing what a jewel Ventnor and it’s precious bay are, 20 years before the people who are continuing to see the same on a daily basis today. As the CP advertorial quite rightly said, “From day one it’s popularity was assured because of it’s unique location …” They have made a great business success of the place, launching further successful pubs in Ventnor and around the Island.

Please don’t giggle when we say we all know they single-handedly turned around the town of Ventnor by opening the Spyglass — and without their actions we’d all be eating our babies, living in mud huts and thinking it was all perfectly normal.

Genuine respect to them for having assembled a gaggle of local talent to musically entertain everyone in town – all with zero entry cost. It’s a great gesture to repay the Island for their support over 20 years.

The excellent and versatile JC & Angelina will be in the guise of The Dance Preachers, morphing into a big band sound, which, given their immense musical talent, should sound amazing, when they’re on between 21:00 and 23:30 tonight.

“All welcome,” the Chronicle advert says, so you never know, you might find us down there. [image reproduced courtesy of the excellent Isle of Wight Attractions]
