Cheetah Marine DCC Meeting

NEWS UPDATE: Dennis Russell posted the following message on the forum on Friday. Once we hear more news, we’ll let you know what’s happening.

Just had a telephone call from the Planning Case Officer, who is dealing with the Cheetah Marine application, that consideration of the application is off the agenda for next Tuesday’s (20 Feb) meeting of the Development Control Committee.

This doesn’t mean that the application has been withdrawn, but (like the dead parrot) only sleeping. We shall have to figure out what it means when we find out more information.

The Isle of Wight Council’s Development Control Committee will be meeting on Tuesday 20 February 2007 at 4.00pm in the County Hall Council Chamber to discuss this application.

Planning officers have recommended conditional permission on the application and it will be the DCCs duty to make a decision in the best interests of Ventnor.

You can read full details of the planning departments decision online.

Oh and if you’re wondering what the Ventnor Town Council thought of the application …. well, they originally refused it on the grounds of:

(a) The industrial design of the building and the proposed security fencing is not in keeping with the area and is detrimental to the surrounding landscape;

(b) The original Planning Brief for development of the area declared that all development should comprise mixed development and the proposal fails to meet this standard;

(c) All development on The Esplanade should be designed to enhance the overall appearance and not detract from the attractiveness of a most important asset to the town and seafront;

(d) Particular attention should be given to the roof design which is important as it is viewed from the public areas above and this application does not satisfactorily deal with this requirement.

The changes to the design were minimal, however, to the revised scheme, Ventnor Town Council ‘Saw no reason why planning consent should not be issued’.

The debate continues over on the forum.

Stick it in the diary and let your neighbours know.
