Prozac, Charlie, The Pistol and Me …. A MySpace Intro

Some people love it, some people hate it, but whatever you feel about it, you can’t deny that MySpace is a cultural phenomenon.

Figures released earlier in the week put it as the number one community Website in the US, attracting 80% of the market share and it has grown from being the sad teenage hangout of two years ago to the networking monolith it is today.

There are many elements about MySpace that I dislike (I’ll save these for another time, because when it comes to Rupert Murdoch I could go on for hours), but one thing that I do love, is the way it opens you up to some great art, music, writing (and even people) you might never have experienced.

sid viciousYou know how it goes … you’re looking around at a friend’s space, you might be tempted to click on one of their friends profiles because of the photo or a comment they’ve made, from that space the same thing will happen with one of their friends and so on. During this journey you might discover new music, people with common interests or hobbies, or obviously talented people using MySpace to springboard themselves. If you don’t have a publisher or a record company, it could be the right place for you.

Brooke “Brookers” Brodack was recently signed to a LA Production company after making a name for herself on YouTube with her postings of videos, mostly of miming to sound tracks.

Anyway, what I’m leading up to is my earlier promise of introducing you to a great up and coming writer that I met on MySpace. He goes by the name of Leeroy T Mofo. Over the last eight months he’s been working on a novel and has published the first three chapters on MySpace.

‘Prozac, Charlie, The Pistol and Me’ is not for the faint hearted, and as it stars his very own rendition of Sid Vicious, expect some rather indecent language. The descriptive imagery is fantastic (in my opinion) and the tension in the third chapter is overwhelming.

Before you head over to read it in full for yourself, visit Hello Mofo first. Here you will find music created by the David Lynch of Audio to accompany your reading experience. I’m not sure who this guy is, but he’s hit the nail right on the head.

As this posting is getting quite long, I’ve carried it over to a new page. Follow to link to read on.
