I hope you will all join us in welcoming a new regular contributor to the blog. It’s none other than former Mayor of Ventnor and Green Party member, Brian Lucas.
Brian knows a thing or two about green issues, so each week he’ll be keeping us up to date and making suggestions on how we can help make a difference.
In a series of articles I will be pointing out what Ventnorians, as well as other less fortunate folk can do to be greener. On a scale of 1 to 10, I reckon we are only at 5, and we could do better. We are only “pale” green or “Kiwi Burst 5″ on the Dulux colour chart
At the coastal Conference in the Winter Gardens the week before last, Andy Sutton the IOWC leader signed the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change committing his council, to reduce carbon emissions. Believe me Mr Sutton, there is much to be done before you can say that you “walk the talk”.
But as the Chinese say, “a journey of 1000 miles start with one step”
Step No 1. Recycle by asking the IOW council to give you a free green and a black recycle box. Only 30% of island households have taken up this offer and Ventnor should show a lead by getting this much higher. Brian Lucas
